After hitting a small bump in the road in mid-March, Galveston College is riding high and has put together a six-game winning streak which helped it move up a spot to No. 11 in the NJCAA Division I softball rankings released on Monday.

“The team is taking our games and ranking seriously,” said Galveston College Athletic Director and Head Softball Coach, Kelly Raines. “We want to win and qualify for the regional tournament, and if we can improve in the rankings, we’ll take that, too. We have a month left in the regular season and we need to collect as many wins as possible.”

The Whitecaps will begin the last stretch of the regular season with a pair of away games on Wednesday at Angelina College.

GC has a 28-7 record overall and is 6-2 in the NJCAA DI Region 14 South Conference. The Whitecaps are in second place, behind San Jacinto College-South (27-15, 9-1). Last year, GC won the conference title in the last few games of the season against SJCS.

Meanwhile, Angelina College is in fifth place with a 13-29 record overall and 3-5 in conference play. The Roadrunners lost their last two games against SJCS and have dropped seven of their last nine. This will be the first matchup of the season between Angelina College and Galveston College.

After the short road trip, the Whitecaps will settle in for a six-game homestand, beginning April 6 against Louisiana State University-Eunice in a non-conference doubleheader. GC will host conference rivals SJCS on April 10 and Lamar State College-Port Arthur on April 13. All home and away games will be played at 1 and 3:30 p.m. Home games are played at the Lassie League Complex, located at 2506 83rd St. in Galveston. Games are free and open to the public.
