International attorney, author and Humanitarian Award recipient Abiola Afolayan talked about her life, career and how she is helping put an end to hunger during her presentation at Galveston College’s 2023-24 “The State of the World” Lecture Series on March 26, 2024, at the GC main campus.

During her presentation, “The Power of One Voice to End Hunger,” Afolayan discussed her experiences and work as the current co-director in the Policy and Research Institute at Bread for the World, as well as her past work with the World Food Programme in Rome, Italy, as a foreign affairs staffer on Capitol Hill, as an adjunct professor at George Washington University, and at the American Bar Association as Vice Chair of Programs for the Section on Energy and Environment and the Rule of Law Initiative-Africa Council.

“I’m encouraged when I see people care about the work we are doing,” said Afolayan during her presentation. “The solution is two-legged. You have to get personally involved. There is no way about it.”

Afolayan also discussed her work advancing the human rights of women and girls and the pursuit of justice, which won her the Humanitarian Award.
