Galveston College was honored by the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce with the presentation of the Christie Mitchell Beachcomber Award during the chamber’s 179th Annual Meeting on Jan. 13, 2024 at the Galveston Island Convention Center.

The Christie Mitchell Beachcomber Award celebrates the recipient's significant promotion of Galveston Island and was presented to Galveston College. GC President W. Myles Shelton, Ed.D., accepted the award on behalf of the College.

“It is an honor to receive this distinction from the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce,” said Galveston College President W. Myles Shelton, Ed.D. “Galveston College has been an integral part of Galveston Island since 1967 by providing affordable, quality higher education to the Galveston Island community. On behalf of the College and our Board of Regents, I am grateful to the Chamber for recognizing Galveston College and the work we do in promoting and supporting our students and advocating for Galveston Island.”

Also representing Galveston College at the Chamber’s annual meeting were Galveston College Board of Regents Chair Karen Flowers, Vice Chair Fred Raschke, and Regents Armin Cantini, Mary Longoria, Michael Hughes, Carolyn Sunseri and Norman Hoffman.
