50th Anniversary Spring Concert “Nature Sings”

Galveston, Texas— Wednesday, May 4, 2022  The Galveston College Community Chorale’s 2022 Spring Concert, “Nature Sings,” will be a celebration of the 50th anniversary of an island institution which has entertained generations of music lovers.

The Galveston College Community Chorale was established by Dr. Larry Patton in 1972 as part of the College’s newly formed music department. It was created to provide opportunities for interested individuals to perform for the public.  Dr. Patton would go on to direct the Chorale for the next 27 years.  In 2012, Michael Gilbert began directing the singing group, and in 2018 the Galveston Art League recognized the Chorale for making significant and valuable contributions to the arts in Galveston.

The 60-plus voices of the Chorale will be celebrating their 50th anniversary with a program that reflects our natural environment.  Songs such as “All Things Bright and Beautiful,” “Lunar Lullaby,” “Stars Tonight,” “Down by the Riverside,” and “Singin’ in the Rain” are just a few of the selections that will be performed.   The founder of the Chorale, Dr. Patton, will lead one of the musical selections and a special presentation by the Galveston Ballet will highlight the performance.

Past members of the Chorale will be recognized and are encouraged to attend this special 50th anniversary concert to celebrate this milestone in the history of the organization.  The concert will be held on Sunday, May 15th at 4 p.m. at Moody United Methodist Church in Galveston. This event is free and open to the public.
