A case review by Alexander Yordanopoulos, a second-year student in the Galveston College
Nuclear Medicine Technology program, is one of only nine abstracts selected for presentation
at the 63rd Annual Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging-Southwest Chapter
Meeting April 13-15 in Frisco, Texas.
Yordanopoulos will present his case review as a poster and will be available during the poster exhibit to answer and discuss his case review with physicians, technologists and physicists.
The title of Yordanopoulos’ case review is “The Hepatobiliary Scan of the ‘Gallbladder-ish’ Finding.” There will be a cash reward for the poster voted the best during the exhibit.
Yordanopoulos was born in Athens, Greece, and moved to the United States when he was young. He grew up in Boston and moved to Ohio to begin his career goals as a medical professional.
“Alexander was always interested in diagnostic imaging; however, he also applied to nursing programs to which he was accepted,” said Rebecca Montz, director of the Galveston College Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
“After his first semester of nursing school, he decided to move to Houston to assist in the care of his ailing father battling cancer,” said Montz. “Upon moving to the Houston area, he researched programs in diagnostic imaging and discovered the Galveston College Nuclear Medicine Technology program. He was immediately fascinated by nuclear medicine due to the ability of the procedures to diagnosis patients early improving their quality of life.”
Yordanopoulos said he is grateful for the opportunity to be part of a profession that plays a vital role in a patient’s diagnosis, treatment and outcome.
“Alexander’s professional achievement is a direct representation of the program’s expectations and commitment to promoting lifelong learning,” said Montz. “The program has the support of administration, clinical affiliates and staff technologists to enhance the educational experience for future nuclear medicine technologists, as well as provide the knowledge and resources necessary to excel at both regional and national levels.”
The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging-Southwestern Chapter is a regional chapter that consists of over 1,200 physicians, physicists, technologists, pharmacists, veterinarians and commercial vendors who reside in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
Students attend the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board Exam Review at the annual SNMMI-SWC Meeting. The two-day presentation is designed to be informal and fun and to help participants identify personal strengths and weaknesses to prepare efficiently for the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists-Nuclear Medicine Technology (ARRT(N)) exams.
