What happens when love and careers are intertwined? Just ask Janene and Don Davison, a married couple of professors at Galveston College, whose professional and personal lives have thrived side by side for two decades.

The couples’ journey began with a serendipitous encounter in 1997, on an elevator at a Dallas-area company where they both worked. A casual conversation led to Don following Janene through a Wendy’s, sparking a connection that would eventually lead to a marriage spanning 25 years this coming May.

Fun fact: Don's job interview for Galveston College took place in their hotel room in London during their honeymoon. Despite the unconventional setting, Don made an impact and was soon offered a position at the college.

Spurred by the offer, and less than two weeks into their marriage, the Davisons made the life-changing decision to relocate to Galveston, setting the stage for their joint careers at the institution.

As Don's journey into academia began at Galveston College, he soon found teaching to be more fulfilling than his previous roles in private industry. Inspired by Don's passion for education, Janene pursued her own path in academia, starting with teaching night classes at Galveston College before transitioning to a full-time role in 2007.

"Teaching at Galveston College has been incredibly rewarding,” said Don. “It allows us to witness our students' growth and achievements firsthand."

Their diverse backgrounds, Don in business and Janene in communications enrich their teaching at Galveston College, where they emphasize the importance of effective communication and the transformative power of education. Both professors have been previously honored with the role of GC Faculty Senate President, in which they took pride in certifying graduates during graduation ceremonies.

From coordinating class schedules to navigating family life, the Davisons find joy in each other's company and in the community they've built at Galveston College.

"Balancing professional and personal lives is key,” said Janene. “We've found it easy thanks to our supportive employer and shared responsibilities."

Reflecting on their experiences, the Davisons offer valuable advice to aspiring students, encouraging them to pursue fields they're passionate about and embrace lifelong learning.

In Janene and Don Davison, Galveston College gained not only dedicated educators but also a testament to the enduring strength of love and partnership. As they continue to inspire students and each other, the Davisons exemplify the transformative potential of education and the profound impact of love shaping lives.
