The Galveston College softball team will begin a challenging stretch of the NJCAA DI Region 14 South Conference schedule this week as the Whitecaps take to the road for much of the second half of conference play, starting Wednesday with a doubleheader against Coastal Bend College in Beeville.

GC will play 10 of its next 12 games away from home, including conference matchups at San Jacinto College-South on April 11, Lamar State College-Port Arthur on April 15, and Alvin College on April 22. The Whitecaps will briefly return home April 25 to host Blinn College before closing the stretch on the road April 29 at Angelina College.

Despite the demanding travel schedule ahead, GC enters the stretch with some momentum after sweeping Angelina College in its most recent conference series.

The Whitecaps are currently 28-10 overall and 4-4 in South Conference play, placing them third in the conference standings as they continue their chase of another conference title and regional tournament berth.

GC Head Softball Coach Kelly Raines said the upcoming road-heavy schedule presents a challenge, but one the team is prepared to meet.

“We know this stretch will test us, especially playing so many games on the road,” said Raines. “But this group of players has shown resilience all season. They compete hard, support each other and stay focused on the goal in front of them. We’re confident in our ability to rise to the challenge and continue building momentum in conference play.”

GC has demonstrated consistency throughout the season with balanced offensive production and strong performances in the circle, which make the Whitecaps a contender in the contested South Conference championship race.

GC returns home April 25 for a conference doubleheader against Blinn College at 1 and 3:30 p.m. A tailgate will be held prior to the twin bill against the Buccaneers, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The tailgate and all GC home games are free and open to the public. All Whitecaps home games are played at the Lassie League Complex’s Carter Field, located at 2506 83rd St. in Galveston.
