As the Galveston College baseball team closes the books on a competitive season, several Whitecaps earned well-deserved postseason accolades, reinforcing the strength and potential of the program.

GC sophomore infielder Saul Soto led the way, whose consistent play earned him First Team All-Region 14 honors, along with a First Team All-Conference selection. Soto batted .345, hitting three home runs with 48 RBIs, scoring 37 runs and swiping four bases in 51 games played this season.

Also receiving First Team All-Conference recognition was GC sophomore left-handed pitcher Cooper Corkrean. The Whitecaps’ lefty compiled a 1-2 record with a 3.32 ERA for the season in 19 appearances and struck out 34 opposing batters in 38 innings pitched.

Three additional Whitecaps were named to the Second Team All-Conference: freshman right-handed pitchers Gavin Hickman and Hayden Capers, and sophomore right-handed hurler Trent Barnes.

Hickman went 0-2 with one save and a 5.42 ERA, striking out 14 batters in 12 appearances this season. Capers accumulated a 4-3 record with a 4.27 ERA in 17 games while striking out 55 batters. Finally, Barnes went 5-3 with a 3.40 ERA and struck out 38 hitters in 17 appearances.

“This group of student-athletes demonstrated commitment, dedication and talent all season long,” said GC Head Baseball Coach, Ryne Edmondson. “We didn’t always get the results we wanted, but these guys showed up every day ready to compete and represent Galveston College to the best of their abilities. Their recognition is well-earned, and I’m incredibly proud of their growth and leadership.”

The Whitecaps finished the season in fifth place in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Region 14 South Conference with a 22-29 overall record and 14-21 in conference.
