With a ticket to the regional tournament in hand, the Galveston College softball team
will look to extend their season on Wednesday when the Whitecaps open the NJCAA DI
Region 14 Tournament against top-seeded Trinity Valley Community College.
The Whitecaps (15-9 in conference, 39-15 overall) will take on the Cardinals (22-6,
52-6) at 5 p.m. in the third game of the first round of the eight-team tournament.
Four teams from each of the two conferences in Region 14 qualified for the competition.
This year’s regional tournament is hosted by San Jacinto College in Houston.
The winner of the regional tournament advances to the NJCAA Division I Softball World
Series at Oxford, Alabama, May 25-30.
“We’re looking forward to playing the top teams in our region,” said GC Softball Head
Coach, Kelly Raines. “All the teams in the regional tournament are talented and that’s
why they’re here. None of the games in this phase of the season will be easy. We have
to stay focused and play hard.”
This season’s qualification marks the fourth consecutive regional tournament appearance
by the Whitecaps. GC advanced to the NJCAA DI World Series in 2024.
The Whitecaps had a productive regular season this year, racking up 39 wins in 54
games overall. GC averaged 7.6 runs per game during the regular season and are led
offensively by freshmen Cassidy Bank, Andrea Tagovailoa and Gabriella Zulkefar, and
sophomore Paeden Vincik.
Bank is batting .430 with 16 home runs and 50 RBIs, while Tagovailoa is hitting .429
with 14 homers and 78 RBIs. Zulkefar added 12 roundtrippers and 59 runs, and Vincik

claimed 13 wins this season with a 3.20 ERA and 80 strikeouts.
The Whitecaps’ first test of the regional tournament pits them against TVCC, the North
Conference champion. The Cardinals ended the regular season on a 13-game winning streak
