HESI Testing

What is the required entrance exam for the Nursing programs?

We require the HESI A2 for the ADN and VN programs. ADN students must score a composite score of 75% and a 70% in the Anatomy and Physiology portion on the HESI A2 RN. VN students must score a composite score of 70% on the HESI A2 PN. Transition LVN/LPN and EMT-P students will take either the LPN-ADN Entrance HESI or the EMT-ADN Entrance HESI and must achieve a composite score of 70%. Transitional students can also take the HESI A2 RN- you must score a composite score of 75% and a 70% in the Anatomy and Physiology portion.

Is there a study guide for the HESI exam?

The HESI A2 exam has a study guide available from Elsevier. The transition HESI exams do not have a study guide currently. Transition students may use the A2 study guide along with PNNCLEX practice questions to prepare for the exam.

 

How much is the HESI exam at Galveston College?

The cost of the HESI exam is $80.00. You will register for the HESI with the Nursing Department and pay for the exam at the Business Office. Students must get permission from the Nursing Department to pay for the exam before going to the Business Office as space is limited for each exam. Once payment has been received by the Business Office, the student must provide a receipt to the Nursing Department to finalize their chosen testing date.

 

Will Galveston College accept the HESI A2 from other institutions?

Yes, as long as all required portions were taken. Required portions include: Reading Comprehension section which includes: Meaning-Word Use, Conclusions, Implications, Understanding, Grammar, Vocabulary & General Knowledge; Math section and Anatomy and
Physiology section.

 

The EMT-P to RN and LPN to RN HESI tests are only offered at Galveston College at this time.

How old can the HESI exam be and still be acceptable?

Within one year of starting the program. Example: If you are applying for entry into the Fall 2017 program your HESI score from 2016 can be used, but nothing earlier than 2016.

 

What is the process to register for the exam?
  1. Verify availability of specific exam date/time with the Nursing Department.
  1. Receive permission from the Nursing Department to pay for the exam at the Business Office.
  1. Bring the receipt to the Nursing Department to reserve your seat for the exam.
