Federal Grants

Federal Pell Grant (PELL)

The Federal Pell Grant is awarded only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s or professional degree. The Pell Grant does not have to repaid. Pell Grant eligibility is determined by a standard formula used to evaluate the information reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The amount of Pell Grant awards ranges from $583 to $5815 per academic year according to the Federal Pell Payment Schedule and also depending on enrollment status. Eligibility is limited to the equivalent of two full-time semesters per academic year. The Pell Grant is available in the summer if the student was enrolled less than full-time fall or spring. This is an entitlement program with funding available to all eligible applicants, including those who apply after priority deadlines.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

The Federal SEOG is awarded to eligible undergraduate students who show exceptional financial need, those with the lowest Expected Family Contribution (EFC) number, i. e., 0 EFC. The actual amount will vary depending on the availability of funds and other financial aid the student is receiving. Galveston College’s FSEOG award amount is $200 per semester, with a minimum half-time enrollment.
