Title V Grant

Hispanic-serving institutions program

Galveston College is currently in its fourth year of the Title V grant, funded through the U.S. Department of Education. The overall goal for institutions awarded the Title V grant is to "enhance and expand their capacity to serve Hispanic and low-income students by providing funds to improve and strengthen the academic quality, institutional stability, management, and fiscal capabilities".*

The focus of Galveston College's Title V grant is to Increase Student Success and Institutional Effectiveness. Galveston College's year four objectives includes: implementing new instructional strategies in Reading and Writing as well as increasing the amount of students who receive comprehensive educational planning. These objectives will be approached by training faculty in new instructional methods; approval of the components (Proactive Advising) of phase two of the Student Response System (SRS); Faculty, counselors, advisors, and support staff will be trained on process/procedures of Proactive Advising.

Galveston College looks forward to the completion of year four objectives and further enhancement these new strategies will bring to the college's curriculum.
