“Message in a Bottle—or Berry or Palm or Pod: Composition in the New Millennium” reminds us of how accessible information is for our students, through the internet, cell phones, and satellite television; however, much of this information appeals only to their emotions rather than their intellect. Therefore, the goals of the English instructor remain unchanged in the 21st century: to teach students to read and think critically about an issue, an idea, or a literary work and respond with a convincing essay supported with logical details and examples.
