Player Bios

 #1 Jena West

Jena graduated in 2009 from Elkins High School in Missouri City, TX.  She was listed her freshman year of high school in the Who's Who Among American High School Athletes.  During her sophomore year, she was named the Houston Chronicle's Female Athlete of the Week.  As a four-year letterman, Jena received the District's Honorable Mention her junior and senior years.  Jena is cheered on by her parents Randy and Norma West, and her seven-year old brother Blake.

 

 #3 Chastity Skipper 

Chastity graduated in 2008 from Texas City High School.  She was a 4-year varsity catcher, and received All-District and All-County honors each year.  She was on the All-Greater Houston Area Team, and was team MVP for three years, receiving many team honors.  In her first season as a Whitecap, she received First Team All-Region honors.  Chastity is supported by her dad, James Skipper; and her mom, Tonia; and her step-dad, Kevin Dickerson.  Her goal for the 2010 season is to help lead the Galveston Whitecaps to the Regional Tournament and help win it!

 

 #6 Courtney Howell

Courtney graduated from Lumberton High School in 2009.  She is a four-year letterman in both volleyball and softball.  In 2006, she was awarded Honorable Mention, and in 2007, she was awarded 2nd Team All-District.  In 2008, she received 1st Team All-District honors in softball and 2nd Team All-District in volleyball.  In 2009, she received 1st Team All-District in softball and Setter of the Year in volleyball, and also received Academic All-State.  She also received numerous honors such as Player of the Week and Super Gold Team.  Courtney is supported in her achievements by her parents, Dan and Lala Howell. 

 

#7 Whitney Socha

Whitney is a transfer student from East Tennessee State University.  She graduated in 2008 from Clements High School in Sugar Land, TX where she was a 4-year varsity shortstop.  She was awarded Second Team All-District her junior year, and First Team All-District her senior year.  During her senior year, Whitney lead the district in RBI's.  She is supported by her parents Richard and Lisa Socha, and her grandmother Barbara Barron.  Whitney's goal for this season is to help the Whitecaps win Nationals.

 

 #8 Rebekah Ragsdale

Rebekah is a 2009 graduate from West Orange-Stark High School in Orange, TX.  She was a four-year starter for the Lady Mustangs varsity softball team.  In 2006, she was chosen as 21-3A Newcomer of the Year, and in 2007 was named 1st Team All-District.  She was selected as 21-3A District MVP in 2008 and 2009; Team MVP in 2007, 2008, and 2009; and the Orange Leader Player of the Year in 2007, 2008, and 2009.  In 2009, she was one of fifty athletes from the state of Texas to earn the State Farm Texas Scholar Athlete Award, the Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award, and the US Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Award.  Rebekah graduated Salutatorian, and was named Outstanding Senior Girl of her senior class.  She is supported in her achievements by her parents Randy and Paula Ragsdale.

 

  #9 Rose Stubbs 

Rose graduated in 2009 from Garland High School where she was a four-year varsity softball letterman.  She played in the state championship game three out of the four years, and won it twice.  Rose was First Team All-District all four years, and over those years received the Hustle Award, Offensive Player of the Year, Team MVP, Athlete of the Year, and was voted to play in the 5A All Star Game in 2009.  Her summer team is Texas Glory Gold Adkins.  Rose has been playing softball since she was four years old, and her biggest fans have always been her parents Dean and Tina Stubbs, her four older sisters, and her grandmothers.  Rose plans to attend Texas A&M Kingsville in the fall of 2010.

  
 #11 Sarah Shotton 

Sarah comes to Galveston from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.  She graduated from Glenlawn Collegiate in 2009.  Her home team is the Smitty's Terminators 91 that play in the Manitoba Ladies Super League.  Sarah led Team Manitoba to Silver at the Western Canada Summer Games in 2007.  In 2009, she was picked up by another team, and helped them to capture Silver at the Canadian National Championships, and she also participated at the Canada Summer Games.  She earned MVP at the Midget Westerns in 2008 where she struck out 24 batters in an eight-inning game.  At another outing, she struck out 22 batters in a seven-inning game.  In 2009, she was chosen to receive a bursary from Softball Manitoba due to her skill, accomplishments, and dedication to softball.

 

 #12 Brittney Batten

Brittney played softball at Huntington High School for four years.  In 2008, she helped lead her team to the 3A State Softball Championship.  She was a 2008 1st Team All State Catcher on both the TGCA and Texas Sportswriters' Team.  She made the Texas State Softball State Championship All Tournament Team.  Brittney competed in the Texas All Star game, and was named MVP.  She was a three time All District player and Academic All District as well.  She played varsity basketball for two years earning MVP, 1st Team All District both years, 1st Team All Region and Academic All State in 2008.  She also ran cross country all four years of high school, and played volleyball for one year.  She is supported in her achievements by her parents, Randy and Sherri Batten.

 

 #13 Ariel Ellis

Arial is a 2009 graduate from Huntington High School in Huntington, TX.  She played varsity softball with the Huntington Devilettes for four years, and helped lead her team to win the 2008 3A state Softball Championship.  She further helped lead her team in 2007 to become Semi-Finalist in the 2007 3A State Softball Championship.  She was selected for the Texas All-State Team in 2009, and competed in the Texas All-Star game in 2009.  She was named First Team All-District Outfielder her senior year, and was named Second Team All-District Outfielder her junior year.  She played volleyball for two years in 2008 and 2009.  Her biggest fans are her mom Renea Howard, dad Jay Ellis, and step-dad Robert Howard.

 

 #14 Amanda Skaggs

Amanda attended Nikki Rowe High School in McAllen, TX.  She lettered her freshman year in Basketball and Track.  Her sophomore year she moved to softball and made varsity.  Her sophomore and junior years, she received the Defense Award.  Amanda's parents are Jennifer and H. Lyle Skaggs.  Amanda's goal is to help the Whitecaps to go to Regionals, and to win at Nationals.

 

 #17 Courtney McKay 

Courtney played softball at Gregory Portland High School for four years.  She was a varsity starter her sophomore, junior, and senior years.  She was voted First Team All-District Outfielder her junior and senior years.  Courtney's team made it to the 3rd round in the playoffs, and was the Area and Bi-District Champions.  Her parents are Mike and Leigh Ann McKay. 

 

 #19 Lori Earl 

Lori graduated in 2009 from Carlton Comprehensive High School in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada.  Throughout high school she received many academic honors.  She played softball for the Prince Albert Aces and competed in many provincial and Western Canadian Championships.  Lori is supported by her family and friends, but especially by her parents Gord and Debbie Earl and twin sister Kelly.  Lori's goal is to give her best to the team in hopes of winning the Regional Tournament and making it to the Nationals.

 

 # 22 Daniela Barragan 

Daniela was born on the Island -- Galveston.  Her parents are Mauricio and Maria Barragan.  Daniela attended Galveston Ball High School, and played on the Varsity Softball Team all four years.  She was named 1st Team All-District her freshman and junior years, as well as Best Offensive Player, Best Defensive Player, Athlete of the Month, and MVP.

 

 #23 Kori Oord 

Kori graduated from Rappahannock High School in Warsaw, Virginia.  She was a 4-year Varsity outfielder.  She received All-Academic, All-District, and All-State honors throughout her high school years.  Kori played travel softball for the Virginia Rowdies.  She is supported by her entire family and everyone back home.  Her goal is to help her team win the national championship. 

 

 #24 Ashley Curry

Ashley is the daughter of Mike and Diane Curry.  She was a 4-year varsity starter at Brenham High School where she received First Team All-District honors at both 2nd and 3rd base, All-Region, All-State, was one of the All-Greater Houston Area RBI Leaders and the team Offensive MVP.  Ashley was a member fo the 2005 4A State Championship Team and the 2007 4A State Semi-Final Team.
