The Community College Advantage

According to College Board.com, there are at least six excellent reasons for starting your higher education journey at a community college such as Galveston College:
  • Community colleges cost significantly less than state or private colleges and universities, providing a cost-effective way to complete the first two years of college.
  • If you are not sure about college, maybe you would like to begin by aiming for a two-year associate degree before deciding whether you want to pursue a bachelor's degree.
  • You are not sure what kind of program you want to pursue.
  • If you have been out of school for a while or your GPA isn't so great, a community college can help you build your skills before transferring.
  • If you would like a career-oriented degree, such as a fashion-design or a computer-certification program, attend a community college. Programs like these are often not available at four-year institutions.
  • If you work, have commitments, and need a flexible schedule, community colleges are often able to accommodate your hectic lifestyle.
