Scholarship Application Guidelines and Checklist

Galveston College is committed to providing Scholarship Opportunities to deserving students by developing funds from individuals, businesses, organizations and College resources. The criteria for eligibility and the award amount for these scholarships have been developed in coordination with each scholarship sponsor.

The scholarship program at Galveston College encourages graduating high school seniors, transfer students and currently enrolled students to apply for scholarship monies. Awards range from $200 to $1,700 per academic year. Academic excellence, financial need, displayed leadership abilities and participation in extracurricular activities are taken into consideration during the awarding process.

To apply

Complete all required applications and documentation and return to the Galveston College Financial Aid Office.

A. GALVESTON COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS (All students are eligible to apply. See list of scholarships.)

_____ 1. A completed Galveston College Scholarship application.

_____ 2. A copy of trascript-from high school if high school student, from current college attending if college student, including Galveston College.

_____ 3. A 250-word written essay describing your career or educational goals.

_____ 4. At least two letters of recommendation from a high school teacher, counselor, college faculty member, community leader, etc.

_____ 5. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)—mail to the Federal Processor or complete online. [Galveston College code is 004972.]     (Optional, but required for many scholarships.)

B. DRS. CHARLES ERIC AND OCTAVIA HALL SCHOLARSHIP (Must be eligible to enter or currently attending A.D.N. or Allied Health Sciences program, have G.P.A. of at least 3.0.)

_____ 1. Meet the detailed criteria as listed in the Hall Scholarship guidelines ().

_____ 2. Complete an essay of at least 250 words related to your choice of a career in nursing or allied health science.

_____ 3. Submit three (3) letters of reference.

_____ 4. Meet requirements of the professional agencies who determine licensure and certification.

_____ 5. Submit a copy of the completed Galveston College Scholarship application. (Make a copy before submitting it to the Financial Aid Office).

C. UNIVERSAL ACCESS SCHOLARSHIP

_____ 1. Meet the eligibility and participation guidelines.

_____ 2. Complete and submit FAFSA —mail to the Federal Processor or complete online. [Galveston College code is 004972.] (Complete 2007-2008 FAFSA for Summer 2008 and/or 2008-2009 FAFSA for Fall 2008, Spring 2009, and Summer 2009.)

_____ 3. Submit an FINAL high school transcript or GED to the Galveston College Financial Aid Office.

_____ 4. Complete the Universal Access Application and submit it to the Financial Aid Office.

_____ 5. Complete a degree plan or career plan, have it signed by a Galveston College counselor and submit it to the Financial Aid Office.
