Guide for Faculty and Staff


  • Online Library Catalog (OPAC): The catalog is available online in the Library and off campus through the library's web page. There are 4 stations in the library that only look up information about books. There are also approximately 30 computers to also access the OPAC.  Orientations for faculty members and/or classes are available by contacting the library staff.
  • Title Requests: The Library staff welcomes faculty requests for book orders.  Print and non-print acquisitions are loaded onto the Library Home Page approximately three times annually. Lists are also available in the Library.
  • Library Instruction and Orientations:  Library Instruction and Orientations are provided to individuals and classes upon request. Please complete the Library Instruction Request Form below to request a library instruction session.  If you need a library instruction session for more than one class, please complete another form.  Please do not hesitate to contact the library staff, at or call 409-944-1240.  
  • Computer Laboratory: There are 24 computers available in the lab.  Software is networked and includes Word, Excel, Access, and tutorials.
  • Reserve Materials: Faculty members may place print and non-print materials on reserve for their classes. Please give these materials to the library staff.
  • Interlibrary Loans: Other books and journal articles may be ordered from libraries using the interlibrary loan service.
  • Career Materials: Career materials are available for students. These materials include information about employment in careers and disciplines of interest to Galveston College students such as the culinary arts, nursing, and more.
  • Group Study Rooms: The Library has six rooms for group study.  Reservations may be made at the circulation counter.
  • Preview Area: The Library has a dedicated area with TV/VCRs where videotapes may be previewed.
  • TexShare:  Employees and students may receive a TexShare Library Card at the circulation desk.  This card enables the user to check out books from participating college and university libraries in Texas.
