Public Affairs/Foundation

The Public Affairs Office of Galveston College plans and directs activities in public information, special events, college publications, advertising, graphics, marketing, community relations and media relations. The Galveston College Foundation is its own separate 501(c) and directs the friendraising, fundraising and institutional advancement projects on behalf of Galveston College. The Director of Public Affairs and Galveston College Foundation is the official College spokesperson and serves as an ex-officio member of the Galveston College Foundation. The Public Affairs and Galveston College Foundation Office assists in fundraising efforts, scholarship coordination, employee relations and has ultimate responsibility for all external communications, including the college website. The Public Affairs and Galveston College Foundation Office staff frequently undertake special project assignments from the College President.

PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICE

 Joe Huff, III

Joe Huff serves as Director of Public Affairs and the Galveston College Foundation at Galveston College. He joined the College in 1982 having moved to Galveston in 1980 to become Manager of Public and Community Relations at the Port of Galveston. Previously Joe served as Public Information Officer of the Virginia Housing Development Authority in Richmond, Virginia and Project Director of the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority. Civic involvements have included Chairman of the Galveston County American Red Cross, President of the Galveston Attractions Association, and a Steering Committee member of the Galveston Historical Foundation. Joe received his B.A. in Political Science and Mass Communications from Emory and Henry College in Virginia. He has finished all coursework for a Master's in Cross Cultural Studies at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Joe is the 1987 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award-City of Galveston and the 1999 recipient of the Island Rotary Vocational Service Award. He served as President of the Rotary Club of Galveston Island in 2001-2002. Joe has served as Chairman of the City of Galveston’s Committee on Unity and Tolerance in 2002 and 2003. In 1997-1999, Joe served as one of 12 members of the Board of Directors of the National Council on Marketing and Public Relations, a group of public relation professionals representing over 1200 community colleges in the U.S. and Canada. He is currently the treasurer of Communities in Schools, the treasurer of the Gulf Coast Consortium of Public Relations Directors, serves on the Advisory Board of the Bay Area Council of Boy Scouts and the Board of Directors of the United Way.
