 GRADUATION INFORMATION

 


General Information

The Office of Admissions/Records certifies eligibility to participate in commencement exercises for those students planning to receive an associate degree and/or certificate.  

General graduation requirements can be found in the Graduation section of the Galveston College Catalog.  Additional program requirements for graduation can be found under the Degree Plans and Programs of Study section of the Catalog.  

Students must complete at least 25% of the certificate/degree requirements in residence at Galveston College.  Students must also have a GPA of at least 2.00 to complete degree requirements and be eligible for graduation.

*Please note: All students are strongly encouraged to visit with an advisor prior to applying for graduation to ensure all graduation requirements have been met.


Commencement

Galveston College offers one formal commencement exercise held at the end of the Spring semester.  All graduating students are encouraged to participate in the ceremony.  Please check the Galveston College website as commencement approaches for ceremony details.


Graduation With Honors

Students who are graduating with an Associate degree (A.A., A.S., or A.A.S), who have at least 24 semester hours in residence, who have completed at least two semesters at Galveston College, and who have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) on all work attempted will graduate cum laude (with honors). 
 
Students who are graduating with an Associate degree, who have at least 24 semester hours in residence, who have completed at least two semesters at Galveston College, and who have a grade point average of at least 3.75 (on a 4.0 scale) on all work attempted will graduate magna cum laude (with high honors). 
 
Students who are graduating with an Associate degree, who have at least 24 semester hours in residence, who have completed at least two semesters at Galveston College, and who have a grade point average of at least 3.9 (on a 4.0 scale) on all work attempted will graduate summa cum laude (with highest honors).

All honor graduates are designated with specially colored tassels at the commencement ceremony.


Diplomas
 

Diplomas will not be available at the time of the commencement ceremony.  All graduates are encouraged to pick up their diploma at Admissions within 30 days after the semester ends in which they plan to graduate.  Diplomas not picked up within this time period will be mailed to the student.  

 

Note: Diplomas will not be released to students who have an outstanding hold/block.


Replacement diplomas may be requested by filling out the Request for Replacement Diploma form.  There is a $10 charge per reprinted copy.  You may mail payment along with your request form or pay via telephone by calling 409-944-1362.  Please mail or fax your request form to:
