Summer/ Fall Registration at Galveston College Continues

Early registration for Galveston College’s 2011 summer sessions and fall semester continues this week. The payment deadline for early registration of the Summer I session is May 26. General registration for Summer I will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 31 through June 2. Classes start Monday, June 6. Call 944-4242 for more information or visit our website at www.gc.edu.

Backyard Citrus Class

Grow citrus in your back yard. Learn how to select rootstock and varietals. Develop effective care methods for success. The course is taught by a Master Gardener, and handouts will be provided. Ballroom Dance – Introductory Class

So you want to ballroom dance? Join Galveston College’s Ballroom Dance class and you will enter a world of class, tradition and loads of fun. You will learn basic Waltz, Fox Trot, Cha Cha and Rhumba steps and patterns. Students must wear comfortable clothes and shoes (no tennis shoes). Registration is restricted to partners at $100 per couple. No textbook is required. Classes are from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesdays from June 14 through July 12. Creative Writing - Your Story

Everyone has a story: learn how to tell yours. The course examines the various forms of creative writing: memoirs, short stories, novels and literary non-fiction - and the techniques of narration. Topics include plot, scenes, voice and view-point. Students will write and read exercises in class and share excerpts from their works-in-progress. By the end of the course each student will have developed a specific writing project, or will have successfully revised a completed manuscript. Handouts will be provided. No textbook required. Nurse Aide for Health Care

Galveston College is offering a Nurse’s Aide class designed to teach students who continue on to work in nursing home environments. This course prepares students for entry level nursing assistants by achieving a level of knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to provide basic care to residents of long-term care facilities. Topics include resident’s rights, communication, safety, observation, reporting, and assisting residents in maintaining basic comfort and safety. Emphasis will be placed on effective interaction with members of the health care team. Students are required to attend a CPR Level C (health care provider) class that will be scheduled by the instructor. Students must also enroll concurrently in Nurse Aide Clinical (NURA 1060) to complete the Certified Nursing Assistant Program. The course fee covers the cost of the state certification exam, CPR for Healthcare Providers, and insurance. Textbook and Scrubs are required. High School Diploma or GED is required.
