The Galveston College 2010-2011 Leadership Galveston Class recently completed its eight month program in April 2011. Galveston College will hold its 44th annual commencement beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2011 in the Galveston Island Convention Center At The San Luis Resort. This year’s event will be historic because Galveston College has a record 427 candidates for associates degrees and certificates.
The program will feature music by Mr. Don Hermanson. Processional Grand Marshals who were honored as the 2010-2011 exceptional service faculty will be Mr. Michael Berberich, Instructor of English; Dr. Larry Blomstedt, Instructor of History; and Mrs. Janene Davison, Instructor of Speech. The “Star Spangled Banner” will be sung by Galveston College Building Bridges to Success staff member Ms. Kay Reagan.
Dr. W. Myles Shelton, President of Galveston College will preside over the ceremonies.
Commencement addresses will be offered by Mr. Henry Garcia, 2010/2011 Graduate with an A.S. in Mathematics/Statistics, and Ms. Marlee J. Williams, 2010/2011 Graduate with an A.A. in General Studies.
Certification of the graduates will be offered by Mr. Jesse Warren, President of the Faculty Senate, with the Degrees and Certificates being conferred by Dr. W. Myles Shelton and Mr. Florentino “Tino” Gonzalez, Chairman, Board of Regents.
The 2011 Galveston College Awards Banquet was held on Friday, April 29 in the Abe and Annie Seibel Wing. The following employees were recognized for five years of service: Tia Campbell, Dana Gazda, Diane Laine, Chandra Matthews, Nikki Montoya, Tim Setzer, Robert Vandewater, and Jonathan Walker. Barbara Crews and Greg Roof were also recognized for having five years of service on the Board of Regents. 10-year service award recipients included: Valencia Allen, Pamela Britton, Mari Macias, Eva Osorio, and Wayne Way. Robert Taylor received an award for 30 years of service, and Joe Conti was recognized for 35 years of service. The College’s 2010-2011 academic year included the retirements of: Dr. Buddy Powell, Sharon Hellman, Santiago Rodriguez, Angelina Martinez, and Joe Conti.

This class will explore the use of acrylics and oils through exciting, free-style applications of fast-paced techniques geared toward rendering bright, quick and meaningful impressions. This class is perfect for beginners and even for advanced painters who want to loosen up and paint! The class will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from June 28 through August 2, 2011. No textbook is required. No Senior Discounts. The cost is $110. This course is designed to develop conversational skills in Spanish and will emphasize the active, practical use of Spanish through an interactive and personalized learning experience. Based on gradual acquisition of useful vocabulary and material related to everyday life, students will become familiar with the Spanish speaking world. Textbook required. Galveston College Early Registration for the 2011 Summer I and Summer II sessions, and the 2011 Fall semester began on April 18. Early registration hours are 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays. Summer Session I classes begin June 6, Summer II session classes begin July 11, and the Fall semester begins August 29.
