A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on April 16 for the new Whitecaps Bernard Davis Field, a partnership of Galveston College and the City of Galveston Parks and Recreation Department. On hand for the festivities were Galveston College Regents Carl Kelly, George Black, Tino Gonzalez, Raymond Lewis, and Armin Cantini. Also joining in the celebration were Galveston College President Myles Shelton, Parks and Recreation Department leadership, the Galveston Chamber Honor Guard, Whitecaps Baseball players, Whitecaps coaching staff, and other members of the Galveston College family.
The Galveston College Student Government Association will host the 2011 Health Fair and Blood Drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4 in the Seibel Wing of the Student Center, located at 39th and Avenue Q in Galveston.
Students and visitors will have the opportunity of receiving educational information on personal health, and learning of various available health resources. Attendees will also have the opportunity of receiving various health screenings, and participate in a blood drive.

Galveston College, the City of Galveston Parks & Recreation Department, and the City of Galveston Families, Children & Youth Board will host EducationFEST 2011 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 7. The EducationFEST is a free community partnership that will offer information on educational resources, family activities, and entertainment. Introduction to Human Resource Management (Getting Employees Off to a Good Start)
This is a two-day overview of human resource issues facing today's business owners and managers. Do you need additional expertise to deal with today’s many employee relationship issues, and make decisions that are both effective and legal? This workshop will walk you through the hiring process, from performing a skills inventory to conducting the interview; discuss orientation; and cover issues that arise after the hiring process (such as diversity issues, compensation, and discipline). Handouts will be provided. Cost for this course is $249. Classes will be held on Thursdays from June 16 and June 23 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Call 944-1344 for more information.
Registration Continues for Summer/Fall
Galveston College Early Registration for the 2011 Summer I and Summer II sessions, and the 2011 Fall semester began on April 18. Early registration hours are 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays. Summer Session I classes begin June 6, Summer II session classes begin July 11, and the Fall semester begins August 29.
