Galveston College offers over one hundred annual scholarships to students during each Spring semester. These scholarships are often augmented by new scholarships, Pell Grant awards, Galveston College Universal Access free tuition for local high school , home schooled and GED graduates and other financial aid opportunities.
In a second round offering of student scholarships seven new scholarships have been created by generous donors. The friends of Leti Diaz DeLeon have created a $300 Leti Diaz DeLeon Memorial Scholarship in memory of their friend and former Galveston College student and employee. Anonymous donors have created a $500 scholarship in honor of current Regent Carl Kelly. The Del Papa Distributing Company created a scholarship in honor of the company’s 100th anniversary of doing business. University Federal Credit Union-Galveston and Coca Cola- Houston recreated four scholarships to award to eligible Galveston College students.
Scholarship applications for the Spring 2011 semester are available in the Financial Aid Office. The deadline to submit applications to the Financial Aid Office is December 3, 2010 by 5:00 p.m. All essays must be original and typed.
There will be a scholarship workshop to assist students with writing their essays. This session will be held November 22 at 1:00 p.m. The session will be held in M-220.

Galveston College Whitecaps Athletics Dept. will hold their second annual Spaghetti Dinner/Silent Auction fundraiser from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, 2010. The event will be held in the Galveston College Sarah Hermes Memorial Fitness Center and Gym at 4015 Avenue Q, Galveston, Texas on Galveston Island.
Whitecaps baseball, softball and volleyball players will play hosts and hostesses for the silent auction that will include sports memorabilia, entertainment packages, collector’s items and more. Both monetary donations and donated auction items will be accepted in the Athletics Office.
The spaghetti dinner will be prepared by Mario’s Italian Restaurant on Seawall Blvd. For additional information call Regina at 409-944-1202.
The Galveston College Choir will present a concert of Christmas choral music on Monday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. in room FA-207 at Galveston College. Dr. Larry Patton will conduct and Ron Wyatt will accompany. There is no charge to attend the event and the general public is encouraged to attend.
In addition to traditional holiday choral pieces, there will also be several vocal and instrumental accompanists and soloists. The music will be familiar and both sacred and secular. The audience will be invited to sing-along on several carols.
The Galveston College Choir is a credit or non-credit course offered by Galveston College. The group presents several concerts each year. Those who wish to join the class in the Spring of 2011 may contact Dr. Larry Patton at 409-744-6122 or 409-771-6386.
The Galveston College Spring Semester Preview will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010 in the Moody Hall Lobby. The Recruitment Team and the Recruitment, Retention and Student Success Committee will be available to familiarize prospective and current students with programs and degrees, as well as encourage early registration. Building Bridges to Success is currently taking applications for new participants. BBS is a program for first generation and/or low income students. It offers advising, information, tutoring, transfer assistance, and other support services to help students stay in school and graduate.
To qualify students must have attended Galveston College for at least a semester, earned fewer than thirty college credit hours, and demonstrated satisfactory academic progress. For more information call 409-944-1296 or come to R-286.
