Galveston College Now Offering a New Medical Billing Specialist Program

Enrollment is now open for Galveston College’s new Medical Billing Specialist Program.  The program is being offered in conjunction with UTMB.

Galveston, TX, November 10, 2010/ -- Last month, UTMB Health, Physicians’ Billing Services and Galveston College Continuing Education finalized the curriculum for the College’s new Medical Billing Specialist Program. Enrollment is now open at the school’s main campus and classes will officially commence on Jan. 18, 2011.

The new program comprises 358 hours of Continuing Education training during the span of 9 months and instructs students how to properly and accurately bill and collect for medical services provided by physicians. Topics covered include medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, computer fundamentals for medical billing, professional workforce,  medical insurance, medical administrative support and, in the last semester, students will have an opportunity to put all of their training to use at UTMB Health in the Job Shadowing course.

One of the objectives of this program is to understand basic CPT and ICD9CM codes and the associated reimbursement. Medical Coding and Billing program graduates can gain entry level employment with physician's offices, hospitals, billing companies, medical insurance offices, Medicare and Medicaid offices and more. A representative from UTMB Health will be on-site at Galveston College on Dec. 7, 2010 and Jan. 5, 2011 to talk with potential students about the program.
