Galveston College Student Success Wins Student Respect

The Student Success Center, located in N-119, provides free tutoring for any currently enrolled Galveston College student. Students must bring their college identification card (ID) to receive ser¬vices, and to sign in/out to access the lab. Internet access and textbooks are available for check-out within the Center only. The College website (http://www.gc.edu) contains many links to valuable internet resources for each discipline and for study skills. The facility offers white boards for group studying and/or tutoring, sixteen computers designated for tutoring or virtual learning, and a positive learning environment.  You may contact the Student Success Center at (409) 944-1244.

New Student Orientations

Galveston College is planning several student orientations for new students. New Student Orientation is MANDATORY for all first time, full-time students registering for credit classes. All students are encouraged to attend. Students may choose from  one of the sessions listed below:

Wednesday, August 4, 2010 1:00 p.m.
Wednesday, August 18, 2010 5:00 p.m.
Tuesday, August 24, 2010 1:00 p.m.
Saturday, August 28, 2010 9:00 a.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010 3:00 p.m.

Orientation sessions provide students with information on the many services available at Galveston College. In addition, students are also able to register early for courses and take the Compass placement examination free of charge at the conclusion of each session. Fall Classes Start August 30

Registration for the 2010 Fall Semester is underway at Galveston College.  Early registration continues through August 19.  Summer hours at Galveston College for early registration are Mondays through Thursdays from 7:30am until 6:00pm.

General Registration is August 23 through August 28.  Registration hours are 8:00am until 7:00pm on August 23 through August 26.  Friday August 27 general registration is 8:00am until 5:00pm.  Registration will also be held Saturday, August 28 from 9:00am until 2:00pm.   Classes start on Monday August 30, 2010.  Call (409) 944-1220 for more information.

Galveston College Awarded Grant

Galveston College is among 22 community colleges across the state that has received monies from the  Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant.  The award, announced by Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, Susan Combs, aids technical training programs for low income Texans seeking careers in high demand occupations. The amount of Galveston College’s award is $118,396.  The Board of Regents approved acceptance of the grant at their July 14, 2010 meeting .

Leadership Galveston 2010

Galveston College has set its dates for the new Leadership Galveston 2010. Sessions will be held on Fridays: September 24, October 22, November 19, December 17, January 21, February 16, March 25 and April 29. Prospective students must complete the college’s Leadership Galveston application and the Employer’s Certification forms, which are online at www.gc.edu, and mail them to Galveston College Leadership Institute, c/o Joe Huff, at 4015 Ave. Q, Galveston.

Pharmacy Tech Program

Galveston College offers a certificate in Pharmacy Technician. Pharmacy Technicians provide personal and professional support in the field of healthcare. They are an important contributor in the collaborative effort of doctors, nurses, and other support staff for the care of patients. The job opportunities are diverse and available throughout the country. Pharmacy Technicians can find employment in areas such as: Hospitals, Drug stores, Grocery stores, Infusion Centers, Mail Order, and Education.
