The Galveston College Whitecaps recently signed Sante Fe High School baseball shortstop standout Kyle Giusti. Pictured left to right are Galveston College Whitecaps Coach Gary Key, Kyle Giusti, father Joe Giusti and grandfather Frank Giusti. Kyle’s grandfather is an honorary Whitecaps coach and he played for the original semi-pro Whitecaps team in Galveston in the 1950s.

New Student Orientations Planned at Galveston College

Galveston College is planning several student orientations for new students. New Student Orientation is MANDATORY for all first time, fulltime entering students registering for credit classes. All students are encouraged to attend. Students may choose from an orientation session listed below:

Thursday , July 29, 2010 10:00 a.m. ;Wednesday, August 4, 2010 1:00 p.m.;
Wednesday, August 18, 2010 5:00 p.m. ; Tuesday, August 24, 2010 1:00 p.m.;
Saturday, August 28, 2010 9:00 a.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010 3:00 p.m.

Orientation sessions provide students with information on the many services available at Galveston College. In addition, students are also able to register early for courses and take the Compass placement examination free of charge at the conclusion of each session. Galveston College Summer Session Two Starts July 12  (REPEAT)

Galveston College’s second Summer Session starts July 12, offering classroom and distance learning classes in subjects in Art, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Developmental Studies, Economics, English, Government, History, Humanities, Math, Music, Philosophy, Physical Education, Physics, Psychology, Sociology and Vocational Nursing. General Registration is July 6, 7 and 8 from 7:30 am until 6:00 pm. Late registration continues from 7:30am until 6:00pm on July 12 and 13.  Call 409-944-GCGC for more information.

Leadership Galveston 2010  

Galveston College has set its dates for the new Leadership Galveston 2010. Sessions will be held on Fridays: September 24, October 22, November 19, December 17, January 21, February 16, March 25 and April 29. Prospective students must complete the college’s Leadership Galveston application and the Employer’s Certification forms, which are online at www.gc.edu, and mail them to Galveston College Leadership Institute, c/o Joe Huff, at 4015 Ave. Q, Galveston.

Bank Teller

Galveston College is offering a Bank Teller course. In this course, students will develop the necessary skills to operate a teller window. The course includes customer service, bank security, practical knowledge of teller equipment, and bank regulations. No textbook is required.  Tuition is $110.  Class will be held from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, July 13 through August 5. Call 409- 944- 1344 for more information.

Centerpieces and Roses

Galveston College is offering a leisure learning course in decorating “Centerpieces and Roses”. Students will learn greening and adding floral, how to determine size & shape, and how to decide what flowers to use. Styles taught will be roses (dozen & half dozen), greening round, front facing, fan shape, adding roses, and filler verses fancy greenery. Tuition is $40 and no textbook is required. A supply list will be provided upon registration.  Class will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6th. Call 409-944-1344 for more information.

Managing Stress

Galveston College is offering a course in managing stress. This is an introductory hands-on-course that gives students practical ideas on managing stress. Participants will practice relaxation exercises and participate in individual and group sharing exercises to help with the practice of stress management. No textbook is required. Tuition is $35.  Class will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, July 20 and 22. Call 409- 944-1344 for more information.
