Galveston College Spring Registration Underway

Galveston College will begin general registration for the 2010 Spring Semester today.  Registration hours are 8am until 7pm Monday through Thursday and 8am until 5pm on Friday.   Registration continues January 11th through January 15th.  Classes start on Tuesday January 19, 2010.  The Spring class schedule is available at www.gc.edu and printed copies are available at the 4015 Avenue Q campus or by calling (409) 944-1230.

Join the College Choir

Do you like singing in a group?  Can you rehearse on Monday evenings?  Then you are invited to join the Galveston College Choir, a community-wide group meeting each Monday (beginning on January 25th) from 7:00 until 9:00 pm in room FA 207 the Fine Arts Performance Room, for some fun and challenging rehearsals and performances.
Dr. Larry Patton directs the group and Ron Wyatt is the accompanist.  Reading music and being a confident soloist are NOT required.  You may choose to register for credit or you may join as a non-credit member for $35 at the January 25th rehearsal.  Music is provided – you do the singing.  Call Dr. Patton at (409) 744-6122 or (409) 771-6386 for more information or just attend the rehearsal on January 25th.

Annual Galveston College Athletics Fundraiser Spaghetti Dinner/Silent Auction

The Annual Galveston College Athletics Fundraiser Spaghetti Dinner/Silent Auction will be held on Friday, January 22, 2010 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm in the Galveston College Hermes Fitness Center Gym. A silent auction will be held for sports memorabilia, entertainment packages, collector items, etc.  Donations of both monetary and/or auction items would be appreciated and will be accepted in the Athletics Office.  Dinner Tickets are $10.00 per person.  Proceeds from the evening will go to the Galveston College Athletics Fund.  Food will be prepared by Mario’s Italian Restaurant.  For additional information, please call Regina Williams (409) 944-1202.

Leadership Galveston 2010 Takes Shape at Galveston College

Galveston College has set its Leadership Galveston program’s spring 2010 dates. Sessions will be held on Fridays Jan. 29, Feb. 12, Feb. 26, March 12, March 26 and April 9. The cost is $350 per registrant.  For information, call Joe Huff, Director of Public Affairs and Galveston College Foundation, at 409-944-1302, or e-mail jhuff@gc.edu.  The last day to register is Jan. 21.

Prospective students must complete the college’s Leadership Galveston application and the Employer’s Certification forms, which are online at www.gc.edu, and mail them to Galveston College Leadership Institute, c/o Joe Huff, at 4015 Ave. Q, Galveston.

Introduction to Accounting

A study of analyzing, classifying, and recording business transactions in both a manual and computerized environment. Emphasis will be on understanding the complete accounting cycle and preparing financial statements, bank reconciliations, and payroll.
Tuition is $228. Class will be held Tuesdays, January 19-May 11, from 6:00-8:00 pm.

Keyboarding Classes to be Offered

A Mandatory Course Orientation for the following classes will be held Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 6:30 pm, in room N-310. Contact Marie Eliaz at meliaz@gc.edu for more information.  Classes will meet Jan 19-May 13.

Introduction Keyboarding will focus on skill development in keyboarding techniques. Emphasis will be on development of speed and accuracy. Tuition is $240; a textbook is required. 

Beginning Keyboarding will focus on skill development in keyboarding techniques. Emphasis is on development of acceptable speed and accuracy levels and formatting basic documents.  Tuition is $252; a textbook is required. 

Intermediate Keyboarding is a continuation of keyboarding skills emphasizing acceptable speed and accuracy levels and the formatting of documents. Prerequisite for this class is Beginning Keyboarding. Tuition is $252; a textbook is required.
