How to Activate Your Student Email Account
As a student, you will receive Galveston College announcements and notifications through your @Whitecaps.gc.edu email account. Your @Whitecaps.gc.edu student email account is the primary and official means of communication between Galveston College and students.
For New Students, attending GC for the first time on or after the Summer 2010 semester:
In order to activate your @Whitecaps.gc.edu email, do the following:
Login to the Whitecaps Portal with your GC network user name and password.
|Step 2||Your Whitecaps email address is in the format of email@example.com, as in John.Smith@whitecaps.gc.edu. Your initial Whitecaps email password will be your date of birth in MMDDYY format.|
|Step 3||Click the Link in the My Bookmarks section named “Login to Whitecaps student email”. Please note that you will be taken to an external web site hosted by Microsoft. It should look similar to the image below. Continue with Step 6 below.|
For Existing Students, who attended GC prior to the Summer 2010 semester and have NOT activated their Whitecaps email:
|Step 1||Login to the Whitecaps Portal with your GC network user name and password.|
|Step 2||Click the tab named “Whitecaps Email”. This will list your Whitecaps Email Address and Initial Password.|
|Step 3||Highlight and copy the information in the Initial Password.|
Click the “Login to Whitecaps Student email” link in the My Bookmarks section. This will take you to the login page. This web page will open in a new window or new browser tab. Please note that you will be taken to an external web site hosted by Microsoft™. It should look similar to the image below.
Enter your @Whitecaps.gc.edu email address into the Windows Live™ ID box. Enter your initial password into the Password box. Click the “Sign in” button when you have entered your information.
You will be asked to provide some information about your identity. This information will be used in case you forget your password and need to reset it. Be sure to fill out all the boxes.
|Step 8||If you have an email account that you use frequently, type it into the box labeled “Alternate e-mail address” and re-type it in the box labeled “Re-type alternate e-mail address”. If you need to reset the password for your @Whitecaps.gc.edu email address in the future, instructions will be sent to the alternate account that you specified.|
Once you have completely filled in all the boxes, please review the Windows Live™ service agreement. When you have done this, please click the “I accept” button.
|Step 10||You will be asked to re-enter the new password you entered in Step #5. After, you’ll be taken to this screen.|
|Step 11||Click on the Inbox link on the left-hand side of the page to view your email messages.|
