Galveston College Classes Range From Computers to Welding


Galveston College is offering an introductory course in watercolor painting for the beginning adult student. Color theory will be stressed as well as style. Exploration of ideas using water-based painting media and techniques will also be reviewed. No textbook required. A supply list will be provided upon registration. The course is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. beginning July 27 and ending August 12. The course costs $65 for registration. Call 944-1344 for more information.

Microcomputers and Windows Intermediate

 Galveston College will offer a course in the study of smart commands, understanding system defaults, installing modems, using packaged system products, fine tuning the system, RAM disk and virtual and cache memory. Students will review software in word processing, spreadsheets, databases and a presentation program as well as sending e-mail. No textbook is required. The course is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning July 14 through July 30. The cost is $60 for registration. Call 944-1344 for registration information.

Excel XP ® Introduction

Galveston College is offering a course in introduction to Excel XP. The class provides instruction in the use of an electronic spreadsheet. Students learn fundamentals such as: terminology, machine use, program parameters, display characteristics, formatting features, mathematical functions, and printing. No Textbook is required. The class is held Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning July 7 until July 30 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The cost is $80 for registration. Call 944-1344 for more information.

Introduction to Gas Tungsten Arc (GTAW) Welding

Galveston College is offering a class in the introduction to the principles of gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), setup/use of GTAW equipment, welding consumable nomenclature, shielding gas nomenclature, grinding tool usage and safety. Welding instruction will be provided in various positions, on carbon steel plate and pipe joint designs. Students must wear long sleeve shirt, steel-toed boots and cap. No textbook is required. The classes will be held Monday through Friday July 27 through August 25 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The cost is $500 for registration.

CPR: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Only

 Galveston College is offering a course that instructs students in the lifesaving skills of respiratory (choking and near-drowning) and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children and infants. Two-Man CPR and Special Techniques are included. This is an approved American Heart Association course. The course is scheduled to be offered July 14 from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. The cost of the course is $30. Call 944-1344 for information.

Deep Tissue Massage

Galveston College is offering a course in deep tissue massage. This is a type of massage therapy that focuses on releasing knots and realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue and is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness and sore shoulders. Oils, lotions, sheets and tables required. The course is scheduled for August 10 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Registration cost is $140. Call 944-1344 for more information.

Leadership Galveston

The Leadership Galveston program develops leaders by providing an educational program on the needs, challenges and service learning opportunities in the City of Galveston.  Acceptance into the program is based upon potential leadership skills, involvement in community affairs and concern for the future of Galveston.   The Leadership Galveston Fall 2009 dates are Fridays from 9:00am until 4:00pm on October 2, October 16, October 30, November 6, November 20 and December 4.  The cost is $350 per registrant.
