Galveston College Offers Insurance Industry Training

To enter the insurance industry, individuals should have a good foundation in basic math, possess strong writing skills, and have a basic understanding of the industry, as well as terminology used in the insurance business. Galveston College is offering classes that provide this training to help students enter the insurance industry.

The first course is Business English. Participants will be introduced to a practical application of basic language usage skills with an emphasis on the fundamentals of writing and editing for business. The course is offered on Mondays and Wednesdays, October 5 through December 2, 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The cost is $228.

The second course is in Occupational Math. Students will learn to perform mathematical calculations relevant to business and the insurance industry. The course is offered Tuesdays and Thursday, October 6 through November 12, 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The cost is $150.

The third course is titled the Principles of Insurance. Students will learn the organization of insurance companies, state of regulations, types of policies, and career opportunities in the field. This course helps students prepare for the Insurance 21 exam. The course is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 29 through October 22, 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The cost is $150. Medication Aide Training Offerred

Galveston College is offering a Medication Aide course. Students will receive instruction in the preparation and administration of designated medications by non-licensed nursing personnel employed in licensed health care agencies. Students will also learn medical abbreviation, symbols, terminology, and common equivalents. The course fees include the cost of the licensing exam and prepares you for the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services Medication Aide Licensing Exam. The class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, August 18 through December 17. 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. The cost is $500. Call (409) 944-1344 for more information.

Galveston College Summer Session II Starts July 15

Galveston College will begin Summer Session II classes on July 15.  General registration is July 7 through July 9.  Courses being offered are Art Appreciation, Drawing I and II, Anatomy and Physiology II, Microbiology, Introductory Chemistry, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Microcomputer Applications, Basic Math, Introductory Algebra, Reading Improvement, Introduction to Writing Skills, Composition I and II, Federal Government, Texas Government, United States History I and II, Introduction to Humanities, College Algebra, Music Private Instruction, Introduction to Ethics, Introduction to Kinesiology, Personal/Community Health, Physics I, Learning Framework, Lifespan Growth and Development, Introductory Sociology and Applied Nursing Skills II.

Camps for Kids’ College

The Second Session of Kid’s College at Galveston College will begin its Session Two of Kid’s College on July 13, 2009. Camps include Art, Theatre, Soccer, Basketball, Bringing Reading to Life, and Weird Science. Camps are first Summer Session begin tomorrow. Camps meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays through June 25. Camps are $85.00 per student. Classes are $50 each and offer a host of topics for children from 6 to 17 years of age. Call (409) 944-1344 for more information.
