Galveston College Graduates 323

Galveston College hosted its 43rd annual commencement at Moody Gardens Convention Center on May 14 and conferred 323 associate degrees and certificates. The ceremonies featured the following five graduating students who each delivered a keynote address: Tammy Lynn Childress, Sheila Marie Elliff, Michael David Parks, Tina Marie Roberts and Charles David Slavin.

Board of Regents Chairman Tino Gonzalez thanked the students for their determination and perseverance in a difficult year that included a devastating hurricane and the current economic downturn.  Galveston College President Dr. Myles Shelton praised the families and friends of students who supported the efforts of graduates.

Of the degrees and certificates conferred, 52 students received a 2-year AAS degree. 14 were awarded a certificate in Criminal Justice from the Law Enforcement Academy. 19 students received a 2-year degree in Radiography and 30 others received an advanced Certificate in Computerized Tomography Technology.  Galveston College also awarded two 2-year degrees and 34 certificates in Emergency Medical Services.

New Summer Hours

Beginning the week of May 18, 2009, Galveston College will operate on a four day work week Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Kids’ College Starts June 8

The first of two summer sessions of Kids’ College at Galveston College begins on June 8. “Classes” are 2 hours in length and offered on Mondays and Wednesdays between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.  Classes include Fun Art, Computer Fun, PowerPoint w/Pizzazz, Kids in the Kitchen, Snack Shack, Math Mania, Math Games, “Can You Hear Me Now,” Ready to Read Everything, Reading, Word Rap, Creative Writing, Si Habla Español I, Exercise Made Fun, Hip Hop Dance, Kickboxing for Kids, Beginning Piano, Fashion Modeling, Mixtures Galore,  Grossology for Kids, Chemistry for Kids, & Study Smart. Classes vary by age and tuition is $50 per course.

Kids’ College also offers two summer sessions of “camps” beginning June 9. Camps are 4 hours in length and held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm and from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm. Camps include Art, Theater, Soccer, Basketball, Bringing Reading to Life I & II and Weird Science. Camps vary by age and tuition $85 per course.

Summer Registration

Galveston College registration for summer classes is currently underway.  Early registration for the Summer I session runs through May 28.  General registration is June 1 through June 4.  Summer I classes begin June 8.  Classes conclude on or before July 14.

Early registration for the Summer II session runs through July 2.  General registration is July 7 through July 9.  Classes begin July 15 and conclude on or before August 19.

Early registration for the 2009 Fall Semester begins April 20 and runs through August 20.  General registration is August 24 through 29.  Classes begin August 31.
