Galveston County Science and Engineering Fair
Galveston College will host the 27th Annual Galveston County Science and Engineering Fair on Saturday, February 28, 2009 in the Galveston College gymnasium and Fine Arts Center.
A cooperative effort of Galveston College, Texas A&M University at Galveston and University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston, the fair provides an opportunity for students to turn their creative and competitive energies into producing innovative scientific and engineering projects. Students from different schools located throughout Galveston County share and learn from each other and their achievements are recognized through the awarding of certificates, trophies, prizes, savings bonds and scholarships.
Founded in 1983, approximately 350 students participate in the Galveston County Science and Engineering Fair each year. Over ninety volunteer judges and organizers participate each year. The exhibit area in the Galveston College gymnasium will be open to the public from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The Junior Division Awards Ceremony will be held at 2:15 p.m. and the 9th grade and Senior Division Awards Ceremony is at 4:00 p.m.
Galveston County Science and Engineering Fair co-chairs are Dr. Donna Lang of Texas A&M Galveston, Dr. Clifford Houston of University of Texas Medical Branch and Dr. James Salazar of Galveston College. Committee members are Steve Conway, Dr. Melanie Lesko, John Merritt, Dr. Bill Seitz, Nyles Graham, Dr. Tom Linton, Ric Montelongo, Natalie Wiest, Dr. Patricia Seitz, Dr. Marguerite Sognier, Alicia Simmons, Sylvia Torres, Joe Huff, Sylvia Ojeda and Michelle Phillips.
