Important Announcement to all Faculty and Staff
We are looking forward to your return to campus on Monday, October 6 and the return of our student body on Wednesday, October 8. Many hours have gone into preparing the campus and planning for your return, I certainly want to thank everyone who has worked to make this happen.
I know you have many questions as do our students. We are currently working on a FAQ sheet which will send to you and which will be posted on our web site for our students.
As we prepare to return to campus next week, there are at least six questions or things you need to know and be aware of prior to returning to campus.
First, the campus is in good shape considering the storm and the damage most of the island sustained. With the exception of the Apartment Complex on Ave Q, the campus did not take on any of the rising storm water that plagued most of the island. Also, power has been restored to the campus and where there has been damage that damage is in the process of being repaired. All in all in the campus is basically ready for your return.
Second, the City of Galveston and Galveston Island are currently under a boil water order; therefore, we would advise you to NOT drink Galveston water at this time. In order to accommodate faculty, staff, and students while on campus, Galveston College will provide at no charge bottled water to our faculty, staff, and students while on campus. Bottled water will be distributed through the Cyber Café in the Library during regular business hours.
Third, due to the boil water order, Food Service will not be able to properly sanitize all pots, pans, and cooking utensils. Therefore, Galveston College’s full campus Food Service will remain closed until we can be assured that your safety will be protected. Although the full Food Service will remain closed, vending machines containing soft drinks and snacks will be available throughout the campus.
Fourth, box lunches will be provided for you on Monday and Tuesday.
If you need child care for Monday or Tuesday, please contact Don or Janene Davison for additional information. They have been working on this issue for you.
And, the last of the six questions or things you might want to know prior to your return to campus is how to update your password if it has expired. If you are having difficulty changing your password due to its expiration, make sure that in the "Account" field you precede your username with "gc\." Example: gc\rvandewa
