Galveston College President Dr. Myles Shelton congratulates Brittany Faircloth on winning the Rudy Tomjanovich Scholarship. Brittany is a general studies student at the college who plays on the Galveston College Whitecaps volleyball team.
Galveston College’s early registration for the 2008 fall semester is currently underway through August 15th. Classes start August 25th. Open registration will be held August 19th through 22nd from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on August 23rd from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The August 23rd registration is on Saturday at the 4015 Avenue Q main campus. Galveston Ball High School will offer four different dual credit classes during the fall 2008 semester. English 1301, History 1301, Math 2413 and Spanish 1411 will be offered for dual high school and college credit. Galveston O’Connell College Preparatory School will offer English 1301, German 1411 and Government 2305. Dual credit tuition assistance is available through the Galveston College Foundation offices.
Galveston College will offer an Environmental Science course during the fall 2008 semester. The course will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. This new course will satisfy the core requirement for Natural Sciences and is an alternative for non-science majors.
Environmental Science is an interdisciplinary study of both natural and social sciences as they apply to the environment. The course will focus on global concerns like global warming, overpopulation, deforestation, pollution, biodiversity and resource use. Students will participate in fieldtrips to Galveston beaches, marshes and water treatment facilities. For more information call the Counseling Center at 944-1220.
