Galveston College student Latrice Bryant is congratulated by Joe Huff, Director of Public Affairs and the Galveston College Foundation for receiving the Coca Cola Scholarship for the 2008 spring semester. Bryant is pursuing the phlebotomy program at Galveston College.
The Galveston College Culinary/Hospitality program is pleased to announce an upcoming culinary luncheon to be held Friday, February 29, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. in the Atrium. The luncheon will be hosted by Chef Paul Mendoza combined with the culinary and hospitality students from Galveston College and Ball High School. The menu will consist of romaine salad with edamame and creamy horned melon dressing, grilled lamb chops with Moroccan spices, spicy red lentils with spinach, cous cous, and the dessert will be a cupcake sampler.

Galveston College Sociology class will welcome Russ Jones, speaker for LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition), for a discussion on how the racially biased drug laws have failed and why drugs should be treated as a medical issue rather than a law enforcement issue. Mr. Jones has spent ten years as a narcotics detective, served on a DEA task force and studied drug problems and policies in the former Soviet Union and China. Galveston College is offering Critical Legal Updates for Individuals and Businesses in partnership with the Galveston Bar Association. The next session is Wednesday, March 12, 2008 from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. The subject is “Landlord/Tenant Relationships”. The session will be offered in the Galveston College Cyber Café. The session is free to the public but interested persons are asked to register by calling (409)944-1344.
Galveston College will host Galveston County Reads on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the Lecture Hall, Room Fine Arts 207. The session features the author of “A Lesson Before Dying”, Ernest J. Gaines through an interactive webcast. The session is being facilitated by University of Houston-Clear Lake Professor John Gorman, and is sponsored by the Student Government Association and the African American Club of Galveston College.
Galveston College will be closed Friday March 14, 2008 through March 23, 2008 for the Spring Break holidays. College offices will reopen on Monday March 24 at 8:00 a.m.
Galveston College Continuing Education will offer an Introduction to Stargazing class beginning Tuesday, February 26. The class will explore the night sky and learn about the cosmos. The class meets Tuesday evenings February 26 through April 15 from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. The cost is $50. Call (409) 944-1344 for more information.
