Galveston played host to 127 guests from a six state area at the National Council of Marketing and Public Relations District 4 Conference recently held at the Hotel Galvez on Seawall Boulevard. The third lecture in the Galveston College Fall 2007 lecture series will be held Thursday, November 8, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. on the main campus in the Fine Arts Building in room 207. The lecture, “Extraordinary Women Leaders and Their Stories” will include local women who have stories to share about their successes and their challenges. They will speak to circumstances for women in their field. Three women will speak to these issues with a question and answer period to follow. All lectures are free.
Galveston College will offer Early Registration November 26th through 30th and December 3rd through 7th for the spring 2008 semester. Classes for the Spring 2008 semester start Monday, January 14, 2008.
Galveston College will close at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21st in celebration of the Thanksgiving holidays. The College will reopen on Monday, November 26th at 8:00 a.m.
This hands-on course is designed for those who know absolutely nothing about computers. You learn basic functions, terminology, use of the mouse and work with Windows. Students review software in word processing, spreadsheets, databases and a presentation program. Classes run from November 3rd through December 1st and cost $60. No textbook required.
In this course, students will learn moving and copying, cell contents; sorting mathematical, statistical, and financial functions; date and time arithmetic; report generation; and built-in graphics support. Students will utilize database features; apply data analysis features; and utilize linked worksheets. Textbook required. Quickbooks training can be brought to your business. Classes run from December 4th through December 13th and the course fee is $90.
The Galveston College Fine Arts Gallery is currently featuring the mixed media painting of artist Phyllis Evans in a show titles “The Subjective Hand”. The show opened in the gallery on September 12th and runs through November 15, 2007.
A special artist reception is planned in the Art Gallery for November 8, 2007 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. The artist will give a slide presentation of her work that evening beginning at 7:00 p.m. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. For more information contact Beth Thomas at 944-1309
