Galveston College Student Government Association (SGA) recently named new officers for the 2014-2015 school year. The Charlie Thomas Family Applied Technology Center will hold an Open House for the public and perspective students on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The open house event at 7626 Broadway on Galveston Island will feature faculty and staff connected to the Center’s programs of Cosmetology, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Electrical and Electronics Technology, Welding Technology and Medical Administration and Medical Coding. Other programs in Allied Health Sciences and Continuing Education will also be featured.
Visitors will have an opportunity to tour the facilities and talk one on one with the faculty and student success advisors connected to the programs. Call 409-944-1401 for more information.
Early Registration for the 2014 Summer II session, as well as the 2014 Fall semester is now in progress. General registration for Summer II will be held July 6 through July 8 and late registration will be held July 9. Registration hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. This is your first step to a rewarding healthcare career. Galveston College is an approved provider of the federally required course to become a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) in a long-term care facility. Course topics include residents’ rights, communication, safety, observation, reporting, and basic comfort and safety. Emphasis is placed upon effective interaction with the health care team. You will receive AHA certification in Healthcare Providers CPR as part of the course. Textbook required. It’s time for a food makeover with your eating habits! In this course, participants will learn about preparing and eating healthier fare, with less emphasis on animal proteins and more emphasis on fruits and vegetables. Mother Nature made it simple for us – eat foods that naturally come from the earth. The course will follow the latest government guidelines utilizing the choosemyplate.gov site. Participants will learn how to make delicious food that is healthier, utilizing some of the “super foods” which promote real health. The cost to register is $79.
