City of Galveston and Galveston College partner to offer special wastewater courses
Beginning October 26, Galveston College will offer - for the first time ever - Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)-approved Wastewater courses. Initiated and developed as a joint partnership between the City of Galveston and Galveston College, the course offerings will be “Basic Wastewater Operations” (October 26-27), “Wastewater Collection” (November 2-3), and “Wastewater Treatment” (November 16-17.) Those responsible for creating this program include City of Galveston staffers Eric Wilson, Utilities Program Manager, and Raul Silvas, Waste Treatment Superintendent Municipal Utilities, as well as Wendy Allen, Account Executive for Galveston College’s Continuing Education Division/Customized Contract Training. Nursing career program set for November 1st
The Galveston College Nursing Department will host an informative seminar at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1 in Room M220, 4015 Avenue Q. Nursing faculty and staff will provide information about nursing as a career, as well as specifics on how to enroll in the programs – including RN, LVN, and Transition – that are offered at Galveston College. Attendees can learn job description(s), different levels of nursing available, and application process. Presently, the College offers Associate Degree Nurse (RN) and certification – Certified Nurse Aid and Vocational Nurse – each providing the foundation for a Bachelors and post graduate degree. Variety of fitness/dance classes offered at Galveston College
From full-body workouts to Country/Western dancing, Galveston College’s Continuing Education Division is offering a variety of unique and fun classes. Currently underway is “Shape and Tone Yoga Ballet”. Offered every Wednesday from 6p.m.-7p.m. now through December 13, this class is a fusion of yoga with low-impact ballet exercises designed to tone and invigorate while helping to reduce stress. On the same evening, from 7p.m.-8p.m., now through December 13, is “Cardio Hip Hop”. This class offers participants a full-body work out. Beginning November 6-December 4, “Introduction to Country/Western Dance” will be presented each Monday evening from 7p.m.-9p.m. This class is designed for participants new to dancing and/or for those who need a refresher. Beacon Square dedication set for November 8
Set for 3:30p.m. Wednesday, November 8, Galveston College will host dedication ceremonies of their new “front door” – Beacon Square, 39th & Avenue Q. Special honorees scheduled to participate include United States Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard, Galveston City Council, City Staff, and other special guests.
