Galveston College TRiO- Upward Bound Recruiting 8th graders

The Galveston College TRiO- Upward Bound program is currently accepting applications from 8th grade students that will be 9th graders at Ball High School in Fall 2014. The students that are selected to participate in the program will begin during the summer component which starts June 11, 2014.

Galveston College TRiO-Upward Bound is a federally funded college preparation program for potential first generation college students from low income households as determined by the Department of Education. Upward Bound participants remain involved in the program throughout their high school years and are transitioned into college. The program offers students a chance to receive academic support through supplemental instruction, tutoring, and advising. Students have a chance to participate in college visits, educational and cultural activities as well as community service projects. Participants are exposed to opportunities that will help them to develop their leadership skills and determine their career path. During the summer, students participate in a six week academic enrichment component that will help them be better prepared for the following academic year.
