Despite a slight down pour the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting for the Galveston College Charlie Thomas Family Applied Technology Center took place on September 17 with over 300 dignitaries, business leaders, faculty, staff, parents and students in attendance. Charlie Thomas and some of his family members participated in the ceremony along with Mayor Lewis Rosen, former Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas, Chamber President Gina Spagnola and the Chamber Honor Guard.
Large Crowd Welcomes New Applied Tech Center
Over 300 business leaders, dignitaries, elected officials, students and parents filled the grand opening ceremonies of the Charlie Thomas Family Applied Technology Center despite a slight downpour just before the catered open house began. Galveston College President Dr. W. Myles Shelton presided over the ceremonies that featured College Regent Chairperson George Black and former Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas. Mayor Lewis Rosen presented a proclamation from the Galveston City Council and Congressman Randy Weber’s aide Dan Buckley presented a proclamation from the Congressman. The Galveston Chamber of Commerce Honor Guard headed by Chamber President Gina Spagnola was joined by Board of Regents of the Galveston Community College District and the Charlie Thomas Family for a ceremonial ribbon Cutting in front of the Cosmetology reception area. After the ribbon cutting Dr. Myles Shelton gave a personal tour to Charlie Thomas his family and friends. Galveston College faculty and staff guided other guests, dignitaries, parents and potential students through the buildings that made up 40,000 square feet of classroom and demonstration space. Benno’s Catering provided several food and beverage stations throughout the facilities for visitor’s refreshment and enjoyment.
Second Start Classes
Registration for the Fall Second Start term is now in progress. Registration hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.
Fall Second Start classes begin Monday, October 7 and end Wednesday, December 12. Courses offered include Integrated Reading and Writing III, Basic Mathematics, Introductory Algebra, Composition I, World Literature I, Environmental Science II (Hybrid), Federal Government, United States History I, Introduction to Philosophy, Introduction to Sociology/Political Philosophy, General Psychology, and Public Speaking (Hybrid). Current GED Test 2002 Series Ends December 2013
On December 31, 2013, the 2002 Series GED® Test will end its run as the GED® test, and be replaced by a new GED® assessment. After the December 31, 2013 deadline, all incomplete 2002 Series GED® Tests will become invalid. Test-takers who didn’t pass all five content areas will have to re-take all the content areas on the new GED® assessment. The NEW 2014 exam is currently priced at $135. Don’t get left behind.
