Galveston College will begin its Cosmetology program in the new Charlie Thomas Family Applied Technology Center on Monday September 30, 2013. The program can accommodate 24 students with stations for hair styling, makeup application and nail treatments. 

Galveston College Starts Cosmetology Program on September 30

Galveston College’s Cosmetology program will start with over 20 students at the new Charlie Thomas Family Applied Technology Center on Monday, September 30, 2013. Students will learn the skills of hair styling, makeup, skin treatments, manicures, pedicures and hair care techniques. The Cosmetology Salon is located in Building 1 of the new Center and various classrooms and beautician stations are in a state of the art educational facility. Cosmetology Program Director, Erica Campbell, is excited about the new facility and the new class. “I’m looking forward to starting the Cosmetology program for the Galveston community. Digital Photography September 30 – November 4

Get the most out of your camera! Improve your pictures with the technical and artistic basics of photography. You'll learn the basics, take photos, and critique them in a friendly and collaborative environment. Topics include camera settings, basic composition and different types of photography. Try a little of everything and then concentrate on your area of interest. This class is for novice and intermediate photographers. *Bring your digital SLR camera with a flash and interchangeable lenses. Nurse Aide for Health Care October 1 – November 21

This is your first step to a rewarding healthcare career. Galveston College is an approved provider of the federally required course to become a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) in a long-term care facility. Course topics include residents’ rights, communication, safety, observation, reporting, and basic comfort and safety. Emphasis is placed upon effective interaction with the health care team. You will receive AHA certification in Healthcare Providers CPR as part of the course. This eight week course will meet Mondays through Thursdays, October 1 through November 21, 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (some weekends for clinicals).  The cost is $699. Business And Professional Development News:

A customized class in Planning and Scheduling was conducted by Galveston College for supervision level employees at Gulf Copper Dry Dock & Rig Repair on Pelican Island. The 8-hour class was part II of an ongoing program aimed at helping local employees develop the skills needed to advance their careers. Mike Haughton, Director of HSE of Gulf Copper worked very closely with Connie Thomas, Business Account Executive of Galveston College to bring this specialized training to the employees of Gulf Copper.

Second Start Classes

Registration for the Fall Second Start term is now in progress. Registration hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.

Fall Second Start classes begin Monday, October 7 and end Wednesday, December 12. Courses offered include Integrated Reading and Writing III, Basic Mathematics, Introductory Algebra, Composition I, World Literature I, Environmental Science II (Hybrid), Federal Government, United States History I, Introduction to Philosophy, Introduction to Sociology/Political Philosophy, General Psychology, and Public Speaking (Hybrid).
