The Grand Opening of the Galveston College Charlie Thomas Family Applied Technology Center is planned for Tuesday September 17, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at the 7626 Broadway Boulevard location. Local citizens are invited to attend the ribbon cutting by the Galveston Chamber of Commerce and a short presentation followed by an open house that will feature students in programs of Welding, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Electrical and Electronics Technology, Cosmetology, Medical Office Administration and others.
Registration for the Fall Second Start term is now in progress. Registration hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.
Fall Second Start classes begin Monday, October 7 and end Wednesday, December 12. Courses offered include Integrated Reading and Writing III, Basic Mathematics, Introductory Algebra, Composition I, World Literature I, Environmental Science II (Hybrid), Federal Government, United States History I, Introduction to Philosophy, Introduction to Sociology/Political Philosophy, General Psychology, and Public Speaking (Hybrid). Galveston College, in partnership with USA Offshore, will be offering a two week eighty-hour fast-track course, "Introduction to Offshore Drilling Practices". This course is designed to offer the general public and returning military personnel a means to gain the basic knowledge necessary to seek employment in the Oil and Gas industry. If conversational Spanish is your goal, we have the solution! Our conversational Spanish will boost your confidence, and have you ready to proceed with more advanced courses. If you are going on a trip, and want to feel more confident, this is the class for you! Senior discount is available. This six week course will be held on Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. September 30 through November 4. The cost is $79. This course will enable students of limited English to improve their listening, speaking, and pronunciation skills in a traditional classroom setting. Students will develop the skills and confidence needed to speak English in school, at work, and in their community. This course is designed for both an introductory and intermediate level student. Textbooks will be provided during the first class meeting (cost is included in the registration fee). No refunds after the student accepts textbooks and study materials. The ESL class will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, October 8 through December 10. The cost is $149.
