The last day to register for Summer Session II classes is today. Late registration will be held today from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Summer Session II classes start July 15 and will end August 15 after nearly five weeks. Program areas include classes in Biology, Business Administration, Chemistry, Developmental Education, Economics, English, Government, Health Information, History, Mathematics, Music, Nursing, Philosophy, Physical Education, Physics, Psychology, Spanish, Speech and Vocational Nursing. Many of the classes are internet or hybrid courses.
This wine appreciation course offers an opportunity for wine lovers to become educated about their favorite thirst quencher. Participants will learn from a winemaker and vineyard owner about the characteristics of different varieties of wine, how wine is made, and how to properly taste wines and more. Classes are held at D’Vine Wine on the Strand to experience the full wine tasting atmosphere. The cost is $45. The Wine Appreciation class will be held on Tuesday, July 16 and Thursday, July 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at D’Vine Wine.
Food critics and dietitians praise the diet of Mediterranean cultures as wonderfully healthy. Dishes prepared in this course include the healthy ingredients of Mediterranean diet. Instructor Karen Hix will show you how to make some of these more popular cultural dishes at home: hummus, tabouli and baklava. You'll see demonstrations, participate in hands-on recipe preparations, receive family recipes to take home and hear family stories. Best of all – every class ends with a tasting! The cost is $59. The class will be held Tuesday, August 6 and Thursday, August 8 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Galveston College, in partnership with the Galveston Chamber of Commerce, has set dates for the new Leadership Galveston course for the fall 2013 semester. Sessions will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Fridays September 13, September 27, October 11, October 25, November 8, November 22 and December 6. The cost is $500 per registrant. Acceptance to the program is based upon potential leadership skills, involvement in community affairs and concern for the future of Galveston.
