Chef Paul Mendoza and his Culinary Arts students invite you to the spring Culinary Scholarship Lunch on April 19, 2013 in the Galveston College Atrium. The menu is drawn from the book “True Food” which was featured in the Galveston County Daily News last year. The recipes in the book are based on the Mediterranean Diet, but ingredients are selected for their anti-inflammatory qualities. The title of the book mimics that of a small chain of restaurants by the same name. The first course, Chicken Dumplings with Cilantro-Za’atar Sauce, will be served at 11:30 a.m. The entrée of Halibut with Fingerling Potatoes and Umami Sauce will follow, and Lemon-Ginger Frozen Yogurt will be served for dessert. Gulf Coast PASS will host a college readiness informational night for parents of Ball High School students who meet the requirements to participate in the Dual Credit Program. The GC PASS program is a partnership between Galveston College and GISD-Ball High School and the primary goals of the program are increasing college readiness among high school graduates and increasing student success in developmental education course. The meeting will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in the Abe and Annie Seibel Wing.
For those interested in participating in the Dual Credit Program, at least one parent/guardian must attend at least one of the mandatory meetings. Topics of discussion will include the benefits and risks of dual credit participation, dual credit course offerings, and admissions and registration procedures. Attending one of these sessions will also allow parents and students to ask questions to Galveston College and Ball High staff regarding dual credit enrollment. The Galveston College Whitecaps Softball Women’s team is hosting its final two home games of the 2013 season on Wednesday, April 17 and Saturday, April 20.
The Whitecaps Softball team is ranked ninth in the United States. They will face Blinn College in a double header on April 17 beginning at 4:00 p.m. Then on Saturday, April 20 they have a double header against Lamar State Port Arthur beginning at 12:00 p.m. The games are played at Dot Watson Lassie League Complex.
The second lecture for the 2013 spring semester is scheduled for Wednesday, April 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Abe and Annie Seibel Foundation Student Center Wing. The lecture features Dr. Andrew Sansom, Executive Director of the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment at Texas State University in San Marcos. Dr. Sansom will give a lecture titled “The Texas Water Crisis: We Can’t Build Our Way Out of It.”
