Galveston College Partners for Career Fair
Galveston College in partnering with the Rotary Club of Galveston and Workforce Solutions to offer a Career Fair and transfer Day on Wednesday March 20, 2013. The Career Fair will begin at 10:00 a.m. and go until 2:00 p.m. in the Abe and Annie Seibel Wing of the Student Center at the 39th and Avenue Q Main Campus of Galveston College. This is the perfect opportunity for students and campus visitors to meet potential employers and Colleges and Universities that are looking for new students and community college transfer students.
Over 75 employers and exhibitors will be on the Galveston College campus and participants and students can fill out applications for employment or admissions. Employers are welcoming applicants with resumes. The Fair is open to the general public and to all students. For more information call 409-944-1221.
EDucation FEST set for April 13
Galveston College, the City of Galveston Parks & Recreation Department, and the City of Galveston Families, Children & Youth Board will co-host “2013 EDucationFEST - Education is a Family Affair” from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 at the McGuire Dent Recreation Center located at 27th St. and Seawall Blvd.
EDucationFEST offers creative and engaging educational activities from area schools, colleges and universities and a variety of games, food and fun for all ages. For more information contact LaToya Mills, Counselor, at 409-944-1221 or email@example.com.
The Galveston College Whitecaps Baseball team will host three home games this week. The Baseball team will play a double header against Murray State College starting at Noon on Tuesday, March 19. They will play Murray State again on Wednesday, March 20 at 12:00 p.m. On Saturday, March 23, the Whitecaps Baseball team will host Blinn College starting at 1:00 p.m. Baseball home games are played at the Bernard Davis Field located on 83rd Street & Frank Giusti Dr.
The Whitecaps Softball team will host Angelina College on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. On Friday, March 22, the Softball team will host Coastal Bend Community College at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Softball home games are played at the Dot Watson Lassie League Softball Complex.
TRiO Upward Bound Recruiting
Galveston College TRiO-Upward Bound Program is recruiting 8th, 9th, and 10th grade students that will be enrolled at Ball High in 2013-2014 academic year. Upward Bound participants must meet the eligibility requirements in order to be considered as a participant. The program serves potential first generation college students (neither parent has a Bachelor’s degree) that meet the federal income guidelines outlined by the Department of Education. The 8th grade students must be promoted to the 9th grade in order to be accepted into the Upward Bound Academic Enrichment Component that will begin June 12, 2013 at Galveston College. The participants will be provided with academic instruction, academic tutoring, academic and personal advising, and exposed to academic, cultural, and social enrichment activities. They will have an opportunity to visit various college campuses, leadership, career, and financial literacy conferences, and gain access to resources that will assist them as they complete high school and prepare to enter college.
