Galveston College Exhibits in Art Gallery


Galveston College's Fine Arts Gallery has two exhibits. First the "Ceramic Art of Mata Ortiz Mexico" is on display February 20 through May 31.

This exhibition represents a selection of Mata Ortiz Pottery from the collection of Galveston College Art Professor Beth Thomas collected from 1981 to 2000.

Thomas was recently recognized by the San Diego Museum of Man as the first student from the United States to apprentice with master potter Juan Quezada and his family in the remote village of Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua Mexico.



The second exhibit "Not So Simple" is displayed February 20 through April 4. This exhibit features the art of Kirk Mangus and Chris Leonard.

Chris Leonard will give a Ceramics Demonstration on April 4 from 12:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Also on April 4 a reception for the artists and visitors/students will be held at 6:00 p.m.

Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Fridays 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The public is invited.
