Black History Month Guest Speaker
Galveston College’s Student Government Association will have a special presentation for Black History Month on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Abe and Annie Seibel Wing of the Student Center.
Associate Professor Demetrius Pearson will speak on the topic of “African–Americans and Sport: Overcoming Barriers to Success.” Pearson is an Associate Professor of Health and Human Performance at the University of Houston Central Campus. His research focuses on African-American involvement in sport, including North American Rodeo, as well as their depiction in contemporary sport films. He will focus on Jackie Robinson in baseball and Willie Thomas in rodeo. Students and the general public are invited to attend.
