Galveston College offers College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)
Galveston College is now offering the College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP) as a credit by examination opportunity for its students. Students can earn college-level credit through a series of exams in undergraduate college courses. According to Michelle Mackey, Assessment Coordinator at the Learning Resource Center (LRC)-Testing Center, “CLEP allows a student to satisfy a proficiency requirement without taking a class.” The cost per student is a $15.00 registration fee payable to Galveston College and a $60.00 exam fee payable to CLEP (check/money order only.) Customized computer training available through Galveston College Continuing Education division
The Division of Continuing Education-Customized Training at Galveston College is offering area businesses and organizations the opportunity to have a quality, custom-designed, flexible, on-site computer applications training program be created specifically for their needs. Computer applications training is available in Microsoft® Powerpoint, Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook, as well as Quickbooks®. Regardless of whether your business or organization needs to learn the basics offered in Word, the ability to create and utilize spreadsheets as learned with Excel, or to learn how to create interactive slide show presentations through training in Powerpoint – all this and more is available with these exceptional custom training sessions. Learning Resource Center to host open house on August 31st
To acquaint new and returning students with all of the support services available at Galveston College’s Learning Resource Center (LRC), a special Open House and Expo will be held from 9a.m.-7p.m. on Thursday, August 31. The LRC is located on the first floor of Regents Hall, 4015 Avenue Q. The LRC houses the David Glenn Hunt Memorial Library, Cyber Café, Computer Lab, Testing Center, Tutoring Center, Media Services, as well as additional resources, materials, and services. Filing deadline announced for upcoming Galveston College special election
The Board of Regents of the Galveston Community College District (Galveston College) met in a special called meeting August 14 and voted to call a special election to fill the vacancy of Regent Phyllis Moore who has resigned. The election will be held in conjunction with the general election, November 7. Filing deadline is September 1 for this position. All interested persons may obtain an application at the College in Room
M-202, 4015 Avenue Q, during normal business office hours - 8a.m.-5p.m., Monday-Friday. Once completed, the applications must be returned to the same address no later than 5p.m. Friday, September 1. For more information, call the Office of the President at 409-944-1200.
Kick-off planned for Galveston College 40th anniversary
A “Galveston College Celebrating 40 Years” Breakfast is set for 7.30a.m.-9a.m. on Thursday, September 14, at Moody Gardens. This breakfast will be the inaugural event of Galveston College’s 40th anniversary celebrating “a beacon of light guiding lifelong learning” for the Galveston area community. Hosted by the Board of Regents of the Galveston Community College District and the Board of Directors of the Galveston College Foundation, the event will include a reception, breakfast, and special program. Galveston College credit students can now budget and pay for classes online; fall classes begin August 28
To assist students in handling their educational expenses, Galveston College is now offering FACTS as a convenient budget plan. There are no interest or finance charges assessed and no credit check with this plan. Enrollment fees apply. For more information, contact the business office at 409-944-1362. Registration continues through Friday, August 25. Classes start August 28. Late registration is August 28-29.
