Galveston College recently held the Fall Lecture Series titled “The Bounty of Texas, Assets and Opportunities” featuring John Gruener, planetary scientist, from the NASA Johnson Space Center who spoke on “Beyond LEO: The near-term future for human spaceflight and the exploration of the Inner Solar System.” Pictured from left to right are Lecture Series Committee members Beth Thomas, Associate Professor of Fine Arts; Klaus Adam, Professor of Chemistry; Dr. Myles Shelton, President; guest speaker John Gruener, Michael Berberich, Instructor of English; Dr. Connie Gomez, STEM Engineering Curriculum Specialist and Janene Davison, Instructor of Speech.
Early registration for the 2012 Winter Mini Semester and 2013 Spring Semester begins on November 12, and extends weekdays until December 14. Student Services office hours during Early Registration are from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays. Payment for Early Registration must be made by noon on December 14, 2012 in order to avoid being dropped for non-payment. Winter Mini semester classes begin December 17, 2012. Chef Paul Mendoza and his Galveston College Culinary Arts students invite you to their 2012 Fall Semester Scholarship Lunch on Friday, November 16, 2012. The menu includes pumpkin hummus with pita bread crisps for starters, followed with a main course of Lentil and Garlic Sausage Cassoulet, with salad. For dessert, Apple Croustades will be served with Brown Sugar-Bourbon ice cream. In keeping with tradition, the starter course will be served at 11:30 a.m. in the Atrium of the Northen Building on the Galveston College campus. Ticket price is $15 and reservations may be made by calling Mari Macias at 409-944-1286.
The Galveston College Community Chorale will perform two Christmas concerts this fall. The first concert will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, November 23, held at the Hotel Galvez for the city-wide Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The second performance will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 9 at Moody Methodist Church.
New Student Orientation is MANDATORY for all first time, full-time entering students registering for credit classes. All students are welcome and encouraged to attend one of the sessions listed below:
Orientation sessions provide students with information on the many services available at Galveston College. In addition at the conclusion of each session, students may take the Compass® placement examination (valid picture I.D. REQUIRED) free of charge. After testing, students may also register early for courses.
