Galveston College President Dr. Myles Shelton congratulates Mirta Salinas on being awarded the Maury Darst Scholarship for 2012 fall semester. Salinas is majoring in General Studies and plans a career in Bilingual Education.
Scholarship applications for the Spring 2013 semester are due Monday, November 5th. Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office located 1st floor, Moody Hall.
Students desiring to apply for Financial Aid for Spring 2013 are encouraged to do so by November 12th in order to receive priority consideration.

Chef Paul Mendoza and his Galveston College Culinary Arts students invite you to join them for the fall semester scholarship lunch on Friday, November 16, 2012. The menu includes pumpkin hummus with pita bread crisps to start, followed by Lentil and Garlic Sausage Cassoulet and salad. For dessert, Apple Croustades will be served with Brown Sugar Bourbon ice cream. Per tradition, the starter course will be served at 11:30 am, with the other courses to follow, in the Atrium of the Northen Building, Galveston College campus. The 2012-2013 Galveston College Lecture Series is titled “The Bounty of Texas, Assets and Opportunities.” The first guest speaker is John Gruener, planetary scientist, from the NASA Johnson Space Center who will give a presentation titled “Beyond LEO: The near-term future for human spaceflight and the exploration of the Inner Solar System.” Mr. Gruener’s lecture begins at 7 p.m. on October 30, 2012 in the Abe and Annie Seibel Wing located at 4015 Avenue Q of the Galveston College campus.
This course is designed for those who provide healthcare to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital, and outpatient settings. These healthcare providers may include (but are not limited to) physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician assistants, residents or fellows, medical or nursing assistants or students in training, aides, and other allied health personnel. All participants who complete the course and pass the written exam will receive a BLS for Healthcare Providers Course completion card (credential), which is good for a two year period. The Heartsaver®- First Aid CPR AED course teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrive. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. This course also teaches adult CPR and AED use.
